CARPENTER ANTS
Carpenter ants are insects that somehow get mixed up with termites. While termites feed on wood and materials, carpenter ants burrow their way through the wood to build their home which is otherwise, a nest. There may be a requirement for a certain expertise in finding these ant nests out as they vary from one species to another. Most times, they are easily noticed due to the severe damage they may have caused wood or a cut-down tree. The presence of carpenter ants in the home could be frustrating as they tend to cause a nuisance to your wooden furniture.
These ants, when found in the home, require experts and a special type of treatment for eradication as they differ from the other common ants. They pose more challenges than many other insects that can infest the home.

HOW DO YOU IDENTIFY CARPENTER ANTS?
As one of the major species found in the United States, Carpenter ants are usually quite energetic in the spring and summer seasons while at night they go about in quest for food. These ants could vary at times in size and are usually between ¼ - ¾ inch (length) which gives it a larger size than the rest of the ant species but still does not make it easy to differentiate. Carpenter ants happen to be classified in three different sizes and each with a duty of its own. There is a hierarchical order in which these carpenter ants function and is determined by their size.
HOW DO I GET RID OF CARPENTER ANTS
- Nest & Barrier Treatments - The use of nest and barrier treatments are the most common way of eradicating these insects with the use of residual insecticides.
- Perimeter Treatments - With the introduction of a liquid residual material, extra treatment to remove carpenter ants is applied around the perimeter of the home especially doorways and window outlets.
- Sawdust Control - Usually when carpenter ants burrow into wood to create an abode for themselves, they tend to leave behind saw dust which gives you a trail and then the introduction of sawdust control chemicals should be initiated. This eradicates the presence of the ants as it tends to contaminate their home and make it much less desireable to breed and stay.
